Dog Run

We finally finished the dog run on the side of our house.  We are thrilled with the way this project turned out and so happy to have one more thing off the project list!  Many elements went into this project including the fence, the flower bed, pavers under the dog house, stepping stones from the front gate, gravel, and of course making the gate Aria escape-proof.

Part of the fence in,the first stages of the project
New fence and paver path with landing

Starting the flower bed

Drip irrigation in and rocks around where the plants go

Plants in!

Pavers in for under the dog house

Dog house back, starting the stepping stones

Stepping stones going in, and starting gravel

Gravel

Aria likes her new dog house & patio

Spreading gravel
Escape proof gate (or so we think)

And now for the Before Picture:
Flashback to when we moved in, the side of the house prior to any projects

And the after pictures!
Gravel is in

All done, view from the front of the house

All done, view from the back of the house

Couldn't be more happy with the way this turned out!  It is flush-able, drains well, and really cuts down on upkeep and weeding.  One more project off the list!

  4. How much was it for all the gravel? How many bags did you need?

    1. Sorry it took me so long to reply. We didn't buy bags of gravel, we bought 3/4 of a yard at a local landscape supply. As I recall it was around $100 but may have been less than that.

  6. This looks great! I'm looking to do something similar for our dog. Do you find that the gravel gets too hot? Do your dogs dig the gravel up? I appreciate your reply.

    1. It is on the shady side of our house, so even in the 100 degree weather we haven't had a problem with the gravel getting too hot. Our dogs are not diggers so we haven't had any trouble with them digging either. Hope that helps!

    2. Was it expensive for the materials?

    3. No, it was pretty affordable. The bricks were about $1 each and the gravel was affordable as well.

    1. Very easy to install. As long as you start with level ground.

    1. We got them at Home Depot. I'm sure Lowes also has something similar.

  9. How many fence panels did you need to purchase? We’re they standard size?

  10. How is it on the dogs feet when running? My dogs are tearing up the grass from running. We also have two areas where they get out of the pool and the grass has turned into a mud pit. Wondering if gravel is the answer but curious if its slippery if dogs run on it.

  11. Curious myself how it looks now with weeds and dogs and poop etc?

  12. How did you protect the AC condenser? Dog pee can be destructive to the coils and the outer case.
